Condition report:

The Mamiya 7ii is a medium format rangefinder camera. It became very popular again over the last 5 years since its one of a kind. Also regarded as the only 6×7 camera that ticks all the boxes: it provides you with a large 6x7cm negative, the best sharpest lenses ever made, great usability and this all whilst still being very compact and light. Being a rangefinder camera there is no big and therefore heavy mirrorbox inside, resulting in a lightweight body. As mentioned, the lenses for this system are the sharpest you will ever find on any medium format system. The 80mm F/4 lens is the standard for the system and offers the field of view of a 40mm lens when translated to 35mm film format. Perfect allrounder for travels, landscapes and even portraits. The camera body is made out of durable plastics and this again adds to the fact Mamiya was able to keep it very lightweight, the grip is one of the most ergonomic ones you will find on a camera system as well. The shutter is located in the lenses, a leaf shutter, therefore the camera can use flash sync on all the shutterspeeds that range from 4s to 1/500th. The built in lightmeter is very accurate, also with more difficult lighting scenarios. ISO can be set from 25 to 1600. The camera is mainly used on Aperture priority, can of course be used manual and there is a quick and easy exposure compensation dail between the advance lever and the shutterspeed knob that lets you set from -2 to +2.

This Mamiya 7II kit was checked by ACR and found to be perfect on all aspects. The rangefinder is well calibrated, the shutterspeeds are all spot on and the lightmeter gives good readings on all EV values. Advancing feels smooth and the overall look and feel of the camera are great. Cosmetic wise its also in a very good condition, there are only some light scratches and marks on its bottom plate, but the rest of the camera is basically as good as it gets. Included: Body, lens, lenscap (no hood).

Main specs of the Mamiya 7 / 7ii:

The Mamiya 7 is a medium format rangefinder that shoots 120 film, resulting in 10 exposures per roll. The camera has a built in light meter, dedicated exposure compensation dail and an electronic selftimer. The camera does not have a built in shutter, these are located inside the lenses (1/500th to 4s) These leaf shutters have many advantages: very quiet, flash sync on all speeds and since they barely move/vibrate these can be shot on relative low shutter speeds compared to other 6x7 systems. The rangefinder focusing system allows for easy and accurate focusing, whilst still seeing the scene around your frame. Selected or advised shutter speeds are shown inside the finder by bright red LEDs. Often compared to the famous Leica M system since it basically shoots the same but is a bit bigger. A lightweight yet still very well built camera. Since it was mainly made out of plastic body parts its very light weight making it perfect for photographers who need to travel light.

Mamiya 7 / 7ii variants:

There are no special editions within the Mamiya 7 lineup. The Mamiya 7II was released in 1999 and has an improved viewfinder and now features a double exposure mode. The first generation was available in a graphite / gun metal looking gray. The Mamiya 7II was available in glossy black, pearl white and the very last models were made of a more matte black finish. An additional AD702 panoramic adapter kit is available, basically turning the camera into a Hasselblad XPAN that shoots 65x24mm images on 35mm film. The portability, built in meter, rangefinder focusing system and amazing lenses result in a high populairty around the Mamiya 7 system. The camera's have gone up in price quite badly over the last decade. Luckily we also rent out the Mamiya 7 for those who like to try it out first.
